Some progress on the next release

Sorry for taking so long on the next beta release, but I've been working on a heavy rewrite of the software. Most of the databases have been restructured, and it's been a PITA to rewrite the code to handle it, but hopefully with great change comes great extensibility, namely adding user groups and page-editing permissions to go with them. Of course, I still need to figure out how to get permissions for other bits, like theme and template editing, but so far things are looking good.

I still need to rewrite the administration side, as well as adding a few more minor things that are more easily tested once I actually have the administration system done. I'm probably also going to redo the Admin CP theme to be a bit more "plain" (and therefore easier on the eyes, hopefully).

I do have to say I <3 how the installation code required not one line of changed code to handle the new changes. Just redefine the tables in inc/data/tables.php and the default data in inc/data/defaults.php and poof, installation works fine! The upgrade code didn't fare so well, though. You're gonna have to wipe and reinstall to upgrade. That is exactly why I warned people not to use in a production environment yet.

This is a minor bugfix release. The two bugs squashed are both related to not updating the CSS cache, one when importing themes and the other when reverting to the default CSS.

What are your resolutions for the upcoming year?

In the coming year Fawkes Software hopes to release at least one commercial product, and possibly two.

I, personally, resolve to paint at least one miniature a month until I have no more to paint.

Your site: I like it. It is æsthetic and the sandbox was fun. I don't know what a CMS is, but whatever it is, I'm sure yours is profound.

Initial Beta Release

The Fawkes Software CMS beta has been released! Currently, the latest release is FSCMS-2009-11-22. Beta and development releases are versioned by date.

You can always download the latest release here as well as view the to do list.

If you choose to contribute, please start a new thread describing your contribution (i.e. reformatting code, adding feature x, etc.) so that you may post your updated files for review and testing. Feature suggestions or bug reports should also go in their own threads.

Thank you for contributions, or even just testing!.

If you notice any problems with the site's theme, please post them here, and if you want, suggestions for improvement!

Known theme issues:
"Important threads" separator is broken.
Many default images remain to be replaced.
